Just 2.5 hours' drive from Auckland, Mount Maunganui is an idyllic holiday destination for Kiwis and international travellers alike. Just 3km from The Reef and adjoining the awesome "Main Beach" is an extinct volcano know as "The Mount". Whether you choose to walk around its easy "Base Track" (30min) or the more demanding climb of the "Summit Track" (30min), the views of the Pacific Ocean, Tauranga's inner harbour and surrounding Bay of Plenty are spectacular.

Due to its unusual formation, Mount Maunganui is home to both a calm harbour beach (at Pilot Bay) and an ocean surf beach within walking distance of each other.

For golfing fans, there are 7 excellent courses to choose from within 30 minutes of The Reef. The nearest, which is only 1km (2 minutes drive), away is Mount Maunganui Golf Course, which is recognised as one of the finest championship courses in New Zealand.
